Report of Seminar held on Sunday 2 April 2006
The theme of the Seminar was "Ashihara Fighting and Combat". The participants came from Ashihara Karate (NIKO), Tai-Jitsu, Kempo, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and Ashihara Karate (AKI).
The seminar was from 12:00 - 3:00 pm and was given by Shihan Harry Gorter assisted by Dutch students: sensei Franco, sempai Piet, Sait and Dennis. After the warming up exercises and explanation of Ashihara & Sabaki concepts the participants started to practice Sabaki's against several attacks. The emphasis was on controlling first before finishing the opponent. The group trained this with fun. After this Harry learned the participants a combat drill, which they also trained with lot of fun. Then there was a 20 minutes break. After the break the group started to perform some other sabaki's. These sabaki's included solutions with more kicking involved.
After that Harry introduced something totally different to the group. This is what Harry called "Nose-to-Nose" combat. This means fighting at very close range (no inch range). The group was extremely impressed and pleased with this. They practised this with lots of enthusiastic. At last the group trained some ground "survival". This means damage your opponent as much as possible and get up on the feet again. Harry told the group that one must always avoid fighting on the ground, but when it happens damage your opponent and get up. Some very effective "damaging" techniques where trained. The group liked it lot.
After the seminar the group had a long get together in the very nice bar of the Sport Complex.
