A very successful grading conducted under the auspices of Shihan Harry Gorter, Sensei Henk Riethorst, Shibucho Johny Verheyden(Belgium) and Senpai Franco Tigele with Gerrit Eltink as the “drill instructor” was held on Sunday 29 January 2006. Shihan Gorter wrote ....“The grading went very well. I am very proud of our new two shodans Piet en Niels. The grading started at 1:00 pm and ended at 6 pm. Besides shodan grading we also had a few kyu gradings.”

For the shodan shinsa I had the following programme:

• Warming Up (outside running, stretching, kata in light sparring form and more)
   
• Strike pad (various combinations)
   
• Techniques (ashihara karate’s solution to different attacks)
   
• Kata (shoshin kata sono ichi, shoshin kata sono ni, Jissen Kata sono ichi, Kumite Kata yon and Nage No Kata san). Kata was performed in different ways (standard, sparring etc).
   
• Self Defence
   
• 4 minutes Sabaki
   
• 5 x 3 minutes ground fighting
   
• 30 men Kumite (2 minutes per round)
